UIMA executive director named to Iowa Arts Council board of directors

July 25, 2011

Sean O’Harrow, executive director of the University of Iowa Museum of Art, has been appointed to a three-year term on the board of directors of the Iowa Arts Council. Iowa Governor Terry Branstad announced the appointment.

The Iowa Arts Council is a division of the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs and works to enrich the quality of life for Iowans through support of the arts. The Governor selects board members for their knowledge, appreciation and support of the arts and cultural heritage of Iowa. The primary responsibility of board members is to promote policies and viewpoints that benefit the arts throughout the state.

“I am thrilled and honored to be given the opportunity to serve the great State of Iowa in this capacity, and I look forward to working with my new colleagues on helping further Iowa’s cultural resources and artistic heritage,” O’Harrow said.

O’Harrow became UIMA executive director in November of 2010. He previously served as executive director of the Figge Art Museum in Davenport. He holds a doctorate in history of art from the University of Cambridge and an undergraduate degree with honors in history of art from Harvard University.
